Technology Description

From commercially accessible dimethyl ether, a variety of hydrocarbons can be synthesized through zeolite-catalyzed processes based on the choice of catalyst and process conditions. NREL researchers developed a Cu-modified catalyst that outperforms the commercial analogue, zeolite beta, for the production of high octane gasoline, and showed that the alkene portion of the product can be coupled under mild conditions to produce a mixture that meets 5 key specifications for jet fuel.
